They say ‘the 3rd time is the charm’ and, for Bangkok, that has been true. The 1st and 2nd time (I went back with Margaret shortly before splitting with her and heading to Phuket) I was still a bit overwhelmed by the enormity of the city and how crazy it was. The most recent time, I embraced it. Staying at a hostel and having a few friends around helped, too. I stayed at Bodega Bangkok for 3 nights, located on Sukhumvit Soi 23 (close to where Hangover 2 was filmed, the Asok BTS station and, Terminal 21 Mall), and a friends Air BnB for 3 nights (in the Siam area, more of a local district).

Friend’s Air BnB apartment

Genius invention. I can do things with my hands AND carry my drink!

Conveniently, laundry (20THB) and fresh water bottle fill up (1THB) are in the same place

Some cool Graffiti in a small park near the apartmment
I can officially say Bangkok has grown on me! The BTS (and all skytrain transportation) is so easy, cheap, and convenient (depending on where you need to go the cost ranges from about 20THB-45THB; less than 2 US dollars). It’s by far the best way to get around the city, especially since the traffic is terrible and taking a cab could take double the time. Since I was there for almost a week I got into a groove and was able to settle into the city more so than I was able to before. I saw a movie (Deadpool), relaxed in Lumpini Park*, explored an abandoned mall*, and took a couple great classes at Yogatique yoga studio.
I’m thinking I will have to stop back in Bangkok on my way home. It went from one of my least favorite cities to somewhere I could actually see myself living for awhile
